score Wyspianski, Stanislaw, lyrics The cantata Akropolis for mixed choir and orchestra was written for the occasion of the six-hundredth anniversary of the Jagiellonian University’s foundation. The first performance of the composition took place on 10 May 1964, the Cracow Philharmonic Ochestra and Choir were conducted by Andrzej Markowski. In this short work the composer used an excerpt of Stanisaw Wyspiaski’s Akropolis. It is a solemn piece of music as befits an occasional composition but at the same time it bears an individual mark of the composer’s style.
